Prepared using the TradeBasis dealer appraisal engine

Your insurer says your vehicle was worth less than you think. Get the market evidence, priced the way Canadian dealers actually price.

TradeBasis is the appraisal platform Canadian dealers use to price used vehicles. This report applies the same engine to a single vehicle and sets out every comparable listing and every adjustment in full, timestamped to the moment the market data was collected.

Where the report is used

Insurance settlements

Supporting evidence where a total loss or diminished value figure is in question.

Family law

Division of property on separation or divorce, where a vehicle forms part of the asset schedule.

Estates and probate

Establishing a vehicle's market position as at the date of death.

Transfers and tax filings

Supporting documentation where a declared value must be substantiated to a third party.

Lending and collateral

Evidencing a vehicle's market position for a lender, guarantor or receiver.

Business and fleet records

Asset registers, fleet disposal decisions and shareholder or partnership transactions.

Independence

Our clients are the dealerships that buy and sell these vehicles. The figures in your report are the figures they price against — the same data, the same engine, the same day.

They are not tuned to your situation and do not change depending on who is asking. Every listing, adjustment, date and calculation behind them is printed in full, so anyone reviewing the report can check the work.

Illustrative example. Each listing carries a source link and capture timestamp and is reported at its observed asking price. The subject vehicle is shown in place among the comparables, ordered by kilometres, with a single mileage adjustment fitted from the comparable set itself, which can run in either direction depending on the market. Sample size and price spread vary by vehicle, region and date.

Scope

What this is

  • Every comparable listing identified in your market — a complete set, not a selection
  • Each adjustment stated in full, with the basis for it shown
  • Timestamped to the moment the market data was collected — no backdating, no stale figures
  • Reproducible: identical inputs produce identical figures

What this is not

  • A signed appraisal. Some purposes — British Columbia's FIN-320 for provincial sales tax, for example — require a form signed by a licensed motor vehicle dealer or a professional appraiser. Confirm what your recipient requires before ordering
  • A physical inspection. Condition is recorded as declared
  • An opinion of value. The report sets out what the market shows and no more

Adjustment methodology

Comparable selectionMethod v2.6 §1
The search widens in fixed tiers — province, then nationwide — until the sample is large enough to be meaningful, with same-province listings ranked first. Trim is resolved from the VIN against manufacturer trim lines rather than the seller's advertised description, so an XLE is not compared against an LE. Every listing meeting the criteria is included and printed; none are excluded at discretion.
Sample compositionMethod v2.6 §2
No single seller may contribute more than three listings to the final set, so one dealer's pricing policy cannot dominate the sample. Each report discloses the pre-cap count, the number of distinct sellers, and how many listings the cap excluded.
KilometresMethod v2.6 §3
Listings are reported at their observed asking prices. The subject vehicle's mileage adjustment is fitted from the comparable set itself — asking price regressed against kilometres — and weighted by how much of the price variation mileage actually explains in that set. When the set shows no reliable mileage–price relationship, the adjustment is suppressed and the report says so, rather than printing a figure the data does not support.
Why these prices differMethod v2.6 §7
Each report states what share of the price spread across the comparable set is accounted for by mileage, with the fitted relationship charted against every listing. The measure describes the set; it never filters or reweights it.
ConditionMethod v2.6 §6
Recorded, not applied. Your declarations appear in the report exactly as selected, so the market figures and your vehicle's particulars remain separately verifiable.

The complete methodology is published at tradebasis.ca/methodology and may be reviewed before ordering.

Limitations

No inspection is performed. All condition information is taken from your declarations and reproduced in the report as given.

No outcome is warranted. This report is documentation. Whether it affects a settlement, an assessment or a negotiation depends on the recipient and the facts of the matter.

The report expires 30 days from purchase. Market data ages, and its evidentiary value declines accordingly.
